Hello!
I’m Jack.
Biography
Jack is an industrial designer based in Chicago, USA. Born and educated in Glasgow, Scotland, Jack graduated with a first class Masters in Product Design Engineering from the University of Strathclyde’s multi-faceted DMEM Department (Design, Manufacturing, Engineering and Management).
“My passion for design comes from two places: an inherent interest in undersdtanding how things work, and a desire to bring people joy through objects.”
While gaining experience in two crucial areas for industrial design – novel design thinking, and formal engineering training – Jack has developed critical skills in advanced research methods, iterative concept generation, art/design-trend integration, modelling/prototyping, system-level testing and development, and manufacturing.
“I like to think I can wear two “hats” when designing products. I’m a designer set on finding the most creative solution to a problem, keenly aware of technical limitations. I am also an engineer, focused on efficiency, consistency, and cost.
Intent on building and implementing bespoke, hybrid design methodologies, Jack’s general design process is based on information and data collected from multiple stages of meticulous research. Building on these findings, he relies on a combination of data, instinct, and cultural/environmental influences to inform design choices.
“I firmly believe that design is an all-too-neglected tool. One that, if used more intentionally, can be used to make the world a better place.”
